Children’s Dentistry

What you can expect

Children's dentistry at Hygge Dental is designed to give young guests a calm, positive start to a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Through gentle care, early prevention and education tailored to each child, we help build the habits, confidence and oral health foundations that support lifelong smiles — and raise a generation that grows up genuinely comfortable with the dentist. We’re also proud to offer treatment under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), helping eligible families access essential dental care services for their children without out-of-pocket cost.

A calm, positive start

Early visits to the dentist for a child are formative. When approached thoughtfully, they can establish a lifelong foundation of trust and ease that extends into adulthood.

At Hygge Dental, young guests are welcomed gently and given time to settle in their own way. We clearly explain what we’re doing in language they can understand, move at a pace that suits them and never rush a child into anything they’re not yet ready for. The goal is not just a successful appointment — it’s the beginning of a positive, lasting relationship with their dental health.

Why Choose Us

As a Spring Hill dental practice, Hygge Dental is conveniently located for those living and working around the Brisbane CBD.

Shaped by the Danish Hygge principle of natural warmth and comfort, guests can expect a highly personalised and unhurried dental experience, with tailored treatments delivered thoughtfully by a team who values craft, precision and longevity.

Prevention from the start

Children's dentistry is, more than anything else, about prevention.

Healthy habits, early monitoring and timely guidance can help prevent the vast majority of dental problems before they begin — protecting natural teeth, supporting healthy development and avoiding the need for more involved treatment later in life.

At Hygge Dental, we focus on the foundations by collectively considering:

  • gentle, thorough cleaning when appropriate
  • early detection of decay
  • alignment or developmental issues
  • age-appropriate education on brushing
  • diet and care
  • clear, supportive guidance for parents on helping their child at home

Where treatment is needed, we plan it carefully and conservatively, always with the child’s growth, comfort and long-term oral health in mind.

Designing for the smile of adulthood

A child's teeth, bite and jaw are still developing, making this one of the most important times for comprehensive planning in children's dentistry.

Early signs of crowding, bite issues, airway concerns or developmental patterns can often be identified and addressed when intervention is gentle and most effective.

Where appropriate, we draw on the same comprehensive assessment that informs our adult care, including digital imaging and a holistic view of how the teeth, jaw, airway and growth pattern are developing together. Our aim isn’t only to care for your child’s smile today, but also to support the smile they’ll carry into later years.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

We believe every child deserves access to thoughtful, considered dental care.

This is why Hygge Dental offers treatment under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), an Australian Government program that offers basic dental services to eligible children aged 0 to 17 years. For eligible families, it can cover the cost of essential dental care for your child, either in full or in part. At Hygge Dental, we bulk-bill CDBS services where applicable, so there are no out-of-pocket costs for the services it covers. Services Australia

Children may be eligible for the CDBS if:

  • they’re aged between 0 and 17 years for at least one day in the calendar year
  • they’re eligible for Medicare
  • their family receives certain Australian Government payments — including Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment and several others

Eligibility is assessed automatically by Services Australia at the start of each calendar year, and families are notified directly, usually via myGov. Services Australia

The CDBS provides a benefit cap of $1,158 for each eligible child over two consecutive calendar years — indexed annually. It includes essential dental services such as:

  • examinations
  • X-rays
  • cleanings
  • fluoride applications
  • fissure sealing
  • fillings
  • root canal treatment
  • extractions

Orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work and hospital-based services are not covered under the program. Services Australia

When you book your child’s appointment, simply let us know you would like to use the CDBS. We can check your child’s eligibility and remaining benefit balance directly and clearly discuss any treatment recommendations before they begin. There are no forms for you to fill out and no separate claims to lodge — we manage the process on your behalf.

For families with eligible children, the CDBS is a meaningful opportunity to invest in your child’s long-term oral health — and we’re honoured to provide that care thoughtfully and carefully to the same standard we would for any guest in our practice.

Raising a generation that loves their smile

For us, children's dentistry is part of something larger.

It’s how we help raise a generation that grows up with healthy mouths, confident smiles and a calm, positive relationship with dental care.

We’re proud to be a dental home where families return — sometimes across generations — because the experience feels considered, the care feels personal and the children genuinely look forward to coming back.

FAQs

Let’s answer some frequently asked questions.

Children should start dental visits early so they become familiar with the dental environment and any concerns can be identified early. The appropriate review frequency depends on the child’s age, teeth, diet, brushing habits and decay risk.

Early visits also help parents receive practical guidance around brushing, diet, fluoride, habits and dental development.

We focus on prevention, comfort and education. This includes healthy brushing habits, dietary guidance, early decay detection, gum health, dental development, bite monitoring and helping children feel confident in the dental chair.

The aim is to build positive dental experiences early, not just to treat problems when they arise.

Yes, Hygge Dental can provide eligible treatment under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule when the child is eligible and the treatment is covered by the scheme.

The CDBS covers eligible basic dental services such as examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, extractions and partial dentures. It doesn’t cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work or dental services provided in hospital.

Yes. We can help check eligibility and available balance before treatment. Services Australia states that eligibility generally requires the child to be eligible for Medicare, aged 0 to 17 for at least one day in the calendar year and for the child or family to receive an eligible Australian Government payment.

For 2026, the CDBS benefit cap is up to $1,158 for each eligible child if 2026 is year one of the two-calendar-year period.
