Crowns and bridges
What you can expect
The space left by a missing tooth affects more than appearance alone.
Teeth on either side can shift, the bite can misalign and chewing can gradually become uneven. If left untreated, what started out as a single missing tooth can quietly affect the balance and stability of your overall smile.
Crowns and bridges are among the most commonly considered options for restoring what’s been lost — rebuilding individual teeth, replacing missing ones and bringing strength, balance and symmetry back to the smile.
Understanding the difference
Crowns
A crown is a custom-made restoration precisely designed to cover and protect a single tooth — most often used when a tooth has been weakened by cracking, wear, decay or previous treatment. (You can read more about crowns, inlays and onlays in our General Dentistry section.)
Bridges
A bridge is a custom-made replacement for one or more missing teeth — designed to bridge the gap between healthy supporting teeth or dental implants. The replacement tooth is anchored on either side by crowns that sit over the supporting teeth, holding the bridge securely in place. Working together, these elements become a single, bespoke restoration crafted for both function and appearance.
When a bridge is the right choice
Bridges are often considered when a tooth has been lost, and a stable, fixed, natural-feeling replacement is needed.
They can be an excellent option for guests whose neighbouring teeth would already benefit from crowns, or when dental implants aren’t suitable for clinical, anatomical or personal reasons.
At Hygge Dental, the choice between a bridge, an implant or another form of restoration is never a given. Every decision is made with the full picture in view, including your:
- remaining teeth
- bite profile
- bone and gum health
- long-term goals
- overall smile
We discuss the options honestly, explain the reasoning behind our recommendation and design the treatment to serve you best in the long term.
Designed comprehensively, crafted with care
Every crown and bridge at Hygge Dental is comprehensively designed before it’s made.
We use digital scanning, advanced imaging and Digital Smile Design to plan the final restoration in the context of your bite, gumline, smile line and face — so the finished result feels balanced, considered and naturally integrated.
The craft lies in the detail. Shade, translucency, surface texture, contour, the way the restoration meets the gumline and how it catches light are all carefully considered. Done well, a crown or bridge becomes indistinguishable from the surrounding natural teeth — a replacement tooth that simply belongs.
Why Choose Us

Shaped by the Danish Hygge principle of natural warmth and comfort, guests can expect a highly personalised and unhurried dental experience, with tailored treatments delivered thoughtfully by a team who values craft, precision and longevity.
Conservative by principle
A crown or bridge should restore what’s been lost without compromising what remains.
At Hygge Dental, we plan every restoration with care for the supporting teeth, the surrounding bone and the long-term health of your smile.
Where appropriate, we’ll discuss whether an implant-supported bridge may be better suited to your needs than a traditional tooth-supported bridge — preserving the natural structure of healthy neighbouring teeth rather than involving them as supports. As with all restorative work at Hygge Dental, we recommend the most conservative path that genuinely solves the problem.
A restoration that belongs
Well-crafted crowns and bridges are the ones that nobody readily identifies as dental work.
They restore the comfort of an even bite, the confidence of a complete smile and the simple pleasure of eating, speaking and smiling without second thought. A restoration that feels stable, looks beautiful and belongs to you — naturally, comfortably and for many years to come. That’s the Hygge Dental standard.
FAQs
Let’s answer some frequently asked questions.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
Crowns and bridges can last many years when they’re well planned, well made and properly maintained. Their lifespan depends on the material, bite forces, oral hygiene, gum health, tooth structure and the presence of habits such as grinding.
Regular reviews help identify early signs of wear, decay, gum issues or bite changes.
How do I know if I need a crown or a filling?
A filling may be suitable when there’s enough healthy tooth structure remaining. A crown may be recommended when the tooth is heavily weakened, cracked, root-filled or has a large existing restoration.
Your dentist will assess the tooth and explain whether a filling, crown, inlay or onlay is the more appropriate option.
Is a bridge better than an implant?
A bridge and an implant are different treatment options, and one is not automatically better than the other. The right option depends on the missing tooth space, the condition of neighbouring teeth, bone availability, gum health, bite, timing, cost and patient preference.
Your dentist will explain the limitations, advantages and maintenance requirements of each option.
Do you offer a payment plan for crowns and bridges?
Yes. Hygge Dental offers payment plans for eligible treatments, subject to approval by the finance provider and the terms of the selected plan. During your consultation, we can provide a treatment estimate and talk you through the available payment options so you can decide which best suits your treatment timeline and budget.
A note on treatment information
